‘Snowdrop’ Again Criticized For Showing Traditional Chinese Games
The condemned scene featured the female party leaders, namely Hong Aera (Kim Jung Nan), Cho Seong Sim (Jung Hye Young), Choi Mi Hye (Baek Ji Won), and Kang Chung Ya (Yoo In Na).
“Snowdrop” has once again had to earn some criticism for its latest episode. However, this time, the audience did not criticize the distorted plot of South Korean history. Now the criticism is coming because “Snowdrop” shows a traditional Chinese game.
The condemned scene featured the female leaders of the Aemin Party, namely Hong Aera (Kim Jung Nan), Cho Seong Sim (Jung Hye Young), Choi Mi Hye (Baek Ji Won), and Kang Chung Ya (Yoo In Na) playing Mahjong. (traditional Chinese game).
Mahjong is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread around the world since the early 20th century. Many viewers expressed disapproval of how “Snowdrop” presented the Mahjong game.
Though the game was never a big trend in South Korea. They also criticized “Snowdrop” for featuring Mahjong instead of traditional South Korean games such as Baduk (Go).
“This drama is full of problems,” wrote one netizen. “I think people continue to hate this drama,” continued another. “I don’t know what else to say,” said another. “Well, they should have featured Baduk instead,” concluded another netizen.
On the other hand, returning to the controversy over the distortionary plot of South Korea’s history, the public was most angry at how the JTBC drama depicted the agents of the NSA government in 1987. “Snowdrop” seems to show that NSA agents actually contain good people.
Whereas in the history of South Korea, the NSA is not actually an organization meant to bring down North Korean spies, but only to root out any dissent and opposition to the government regime.
Meanwhile, JTBC has twice given statements regarding allegations of historical distortion after the broadcast of “Snowdrop”. Previously, the TV station revealed that the plot misunderstanding was only at the beginning and would be corrected in future episodes. (wk/charity)
