Police Confirms That Device Under Siti Kasim’s Car is an Improvised Explosive Device
Just yesterday (July 21), Malaysian social activist Siti Kasim found a strange item under her car, which she believed was an explosive device.
The police have since confirmed her suspicions as, according to the New Straits Times, the device planted on her car tyre is an improvised explosive device (IED).
Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner said the matter was confirmed after the bomb disposal unit (UPB) conducted an explosion test on the object at the car’s rear tyre.
He added that the police, however, could not yet confirm whether the IED was still active or not.
“The explosive material will be sent to experts for analysis before any details can be concluded. We (the police) have also not yet taken any further information from the car owner (Siti Kasim), and based on a conversation, Siti Kasim informed us that she has no threats.”
“However, further investigation is underway,” he added.
Amihizam also shared that the police received the information from Siti Kasim when the lawyer sent her car for servicing.
“At the time of the incident, Siti Kasim sent her Toyota Celica car to be serviced before being informed by the mechanic of the bomb-like object on her tyre. Hence, the police will get information from all witnesses of the incident.”
Meanwhile, the police had closed the route near the service centre to allow explosive tests to be carried out by the bomb squad and fire rescue department.
