A funny incident where the university in Korea wrongly invited the artist they wanted, namely TWICE to become another girl group called 2EYES. This Misunderstanding Becomes A Funny Story Among Fans.
Recently, there has been an increasing number of music events held directly after the pandemic period, limiting the community’s space for activities involving large numbers of people. This has also triggered a row of universities to hold music events.
With the university offline festival starting for the first time in more than 2 years, the competition for inviting celebrities between universities is also getting tougher. The reason is, celebrity appearances contribute a lot to the success of the university festival. The more famous the celebrity invited, the more exciting the festival atmosphere.
In this regard, netizens in the online community recently brought back the story of a university that made the ridiculous mistake of inviting celebrities to their festival that intended to present TWICE. It happened in 2016 where a funny but sad incident occurred at the new student welcoming festival held by Pukyong National University in Busan. At that time, the university announced a lineup with the participation of a girl group but mistakenly invited a different group.
A post on an online community contains a screenshot which is believed to be an explanation from the Pukyong National University Student Council. Therefore, the Pukyong National University Student Council is looking for singers to decorate the stage for their new student welcome event and the program agency introduced a girl group called 2EYES.
The chief organizer of the event informed the members after completing contracts with several singers, including 2EYES. However, the student council president confused 2EYES with TWICE due to the similar spelling of their names and wrote TWICE in their announcement. Pukyong University made a notice on their Facebook community page. After causing confusion among the students, the student council president apologized for the mistake.

“This happened because the student council president doesn’t know much about celebrities. The Student Council wants to apologize for the mistake. We tried to replace another singer but it was quite difficult because they asked for a large cancellation fee,” wrote the chairman of the organizer of the event.
TWICE is a nine-member multinational girl group that debuted with the song “Like OOH-AHH” in 2015. 2EYES is a four-member girl group that debuted with “Don’t Mess With Me” in 2013. 2EYES has earned certain popularity, but it is true that they are not comparable to TWICE in terms of public recognition.
“To make amends, the Pukyong National University Student Council then spent a month trying to contact JYP Entertainment (TWICE’s agency) at another university festival to invite TWICE to their festival. They even had to change their festival schedule to match TWICE’s schedule,” said the netizen who shared the story.
In light of this absurd incident, various comments and views on this incident are given. In fact, because TWICE’s popularity was shown to the point that the university gave up 2EYES to appear and wait for the JYP Entertainment girl group schedule to actually fill their show. (wk/taki)
