ENHYPEN’s Ni-Ki Fans Bravely Voice Their Concerns Because Their Idols Are Classified as Boy Groups With One Of The Members Underage Included In The Line Of Explicit Content.

Some K-Pop fans are certainly no stranger to the world of fanfiction which is usually loved by many teenagers and young adults. One of the more popular websites for finding fanfiction, especially the more mature and explicit ones, is “Archive of Our Own” or better known as AO3. This explicit content contains sexual content and other adult themes.

When searching for fanfiction on websites, you can use specific filters for a variety of things, from the couples or characters involved to maturity levels and more. Thanks to this, it’s fairly easy to get an estimate of how many stories are written about a particular artist to an adult level.

About a year ago, Reddit user u/AveragePocky made a list of which K-Pop groups that had the highest percentage of explicit and adult work made about them to make it into the top 15 list. Fortunately, groups with younger artists tend to rank lower on the list than groups with older members.

However, the fact that a group with underage members, namely ENHYPEN, was actually included in the list, which sparked its own concerns. Another Reddit user, u/thelachesis came across this and went to investigate how much explicit work is on AO3 including ENHYPEN’s maknae Ni-ki who is known to be only 16 years old. And what they found was very disturbing.

This is very disturbing because it was found that there were 226 explicit fanfictions that did not receive any criticism or backlash. And while it’s unclear based on this information whether the content about Ni-ki being involved in any of these fanfiction stories or just a side character is still troubling.

Regarding this, fellow Reddit users strongly agree that this content is disturbing. However, although others are also upset by this behavior, they argue that the excessive sexualization of minors, including those in the female group in particular, will not change in the near future due to the growing interest in it.

Meanwhile, it would be nice if most or all of the exposing stories about Ni-ki didn’t involve him specifically in explicit content. Because it could be that the content spreads and creates a bad atmosphere. (wk/taki)
